One day he realizes, he can do anything that he dreamt of before. That power can change a man very easily, and Rob isn't a strong person...
A shady cop gets in over his head when he frames his partner during a drug scam.
Its a run-of-the-mill film with some unique twists.
Ostensibly, it's a run-of-the-mill ""Who'll get the money?" movie about $3,000,000 that goes astray, after a bungled drug sting, but it's got some unique twists, including the ending
Some I particularly liked in this absorbing story of double -crossing 'twixt police/bad guys/civilians, were a villain who's a caring scoutmaster in his spare time, another crook has to take his illicit son to each illegal meeting, fearful that(a)his wife will find out about the boy(b) that the lad could be a witness against him (c) That unscrupulous criminal colleagues could blackmail him over a and b.
Too, I must confess that I have a weakness for female cops as the leads in films...they've deliberately deglamourised Lesley Hope for this role, but she still comes over as an attractive woman, and a competent cop.
All in all, a serious effort is made to give these characters depth and dimension
There's also lots of mild wry humour in this film, which I voted just short of ten for its reliance on a cliche or two e.g."You're under arrest, bad person!", "Okay, but mind if I turn the t.v. on till my accomplice arrives, so's you can then nab the two of us?" The arresting officers look at each other, then nod agreement. By such devices are filmdon's "bad persons" forever making their escape.
Dee and Ryo are NYC Police officers and partners. On vacation in the UK Dee hopes to make his feelings for Ryo known but uninvited guests and a string of murders gets in the way.
A warm hearted shonan-ai anime that did not quite live up to the manga.
This is a truly sweet shonan-ai anime. In New York City, Dee Laytner is a tough cop that does not have a problem expressing his feelings. His partner, Randy (Ryo) MacClean, is an introverted guy who is confused about Dee's feelings towards him, as well as his own feelings towards Dee. When these two decide to go on vacation together in the English countryside, Dee thinks its a great time to put the moves on his pouty partner. But their quite weekend together is interrupted by a serial killer out to get anyone who is Japanese. Most unfortunate for Ryo, who's mother just happened to be Japanese. Will Dee be able to save his partner and "get to the next level" with him as well? Throw in a pick-pocket named Carol and Ryo's ward Bikky (who is homophobic)and you get laughs, action, and romance. WHY I LIKED IT: The Japanese voice acting is great (ecspecially tomokazu seki as Dee) and the US dub isn't too bad either. The story is sweet and fun, and the romance is the same. This is rated 13 & up so there is just kissing. WHY I DID NOT LIKE IT: The manga is available by Tokyopop in the US. The manga goes deeper into the emotional relationship of Ryo and Dee. It also explains where Bikky and Carol came from. The manga is 16 & up and there is more language. The last volume (7 in all) is rated 18 & up for two sex scenes. If your into shonan-ai, check this anime out, but try to pick up the manga too, its well worth it!
Framed by the FBI and distraught by his girlfriend's murder, Marcus West has come home to rest and see old friends, but there is no rest for the weary. A final job passing phony stocks must be carried out, or he must pay with his life.
A respected female doctor is shot by police for supposedly pointing a gun at them, but for several people this doesn't ring true. Not least one reporter who uncovers links to the previous murders of several black children in the area.
What movie did they watch?
I just watched a DVD the day before yesterday called Atlanta Murders but here its called Red Ink.I know its the same one because I remembered the name Debbie Flowers-I mean what a Hell of a name that is!! I get DVDs for very little-sometimes for nothing-and any I don't like go the Age Concern because I do a lot for charity. This however is a keeper as its subject matter is pretty frightening stuff which smacks of the German and Japanese medical experiments of the 1930s and 1940s.. Its like the mad scientist syndrome here-a belief that by extracting fluid from the testicles speeds up the ageing process for the "patient" and slow it down for the ones who are innoculated Maybe thats why George Bush doesn't look his age! Anyway I usually like the True Story type and this I found quite adequate as it slowly builds up into not just unsolved murders but the reason why they're unsolved. Read between the lines and its a Government Cover Up!! And the reason? Because "George Bush doesn't like black people"!!! Yes this is frightening stuff when you realise the "operations" have probably been conducted without anaesthetic and the mind boggles when you also realise that this is the body's most sensitive area. The pain must have hit the threshold. This much IS true
Paradise is a hallucinatory tale of a small store robbery gone tragically awry. A fascinating, thematic meditation on the choices we make in life, and the consequences of those decisions.

Modest Taiwan/Japan Noir delivered by the best.
Burned by the desire to avenge her dead boyfriend, a Japanese woman learns to shoot a gun, and goes after the local Mafia in Taiwan. Mizuno Miki excels in her role as the grieving and estranged, then vengeful and cold-blooded foreigner. In contrast with the realistic bilingualism that made Chi-Ngai Lee's Fuyajo, what makes this movie the more interesting, is the fact that the heroine and the antagonists yell at each other without understanding themselves. Director Chen Yi-Wen does not forget to give depth to the Taiwanese gangsters, who live in a society where the code of honor has long been replaced by money. Unfortunately they are the only Taiwanese characters in the story, but each is vividly brought to life by well-casted actors. The Yellow Monkey's "Holy Sea and Sunshine"'s cathartic lyrics, and the mastery of lighting, color, and framing deliver this melancholy tale of vendetta with excellence and modesty.
Ron, who's young, slight, and privileged, is sentenced to prison on marijuana charges. For whatever reason, he brings out paternal feelings in an 18-year prison veteran, Earl Copan, who takes Ron under his wing. The film explores the nature of that relationship, Ron's part in Earl's gang, and the way Ron deals with aggressive cons intent on assault and rape. There's casual racism, too, in the prisoners and the guards, a strike called by Black prisoners, and the nearly omnipresence of hard drugs. Ron's lawyer is working on getting Ron out quickly, Earl has a shot at parole, and death seems to be waiting in the next cell. Will prison turn Ron into an animal?
Highly Recommended
Although the DVD cover draws attention to another great prison movie (The ShawShank Redemtion), 'Animal Factory' is actually closer in style and content the equally good 'Midnight Express'. Without revealing the plot, Edward Furlong finds himself in deep trouble and is sent to prison for what emerges to be longer than his crime should permit. Here he meets and is befriended by Willem Defoe's character, the prison gang leader of sorts. Furlong, young, alone and vulnerable finds himself taken under the wing of Defoe, which amongst other benefits's, offers him some security against buggery. All the acting is first class, and the direction is snappy enough to keep the viewer entertained until the films climax. Keep a look out for Mickey Rourke's fantastic cameo, had he been given more screen time he would have stolen the show. A must see.
poetic
this film is vivian chang's first film on the silver screen, if i am not mistaken.
a very concise film i'd say, leaving room for all sorts of possibilities for interpretation from the audience.
three stories consist in this film: one of a 5-year-old girl, one of a teenager, and still another of a 30 something woman involved in an affair with a married man. without providing a definite answer whether the three leading actresses are playing the same person in different stages of life, the movie instead hovers on several consistent themes that keep on emerging in all the stories. for example, the image of drops of blood on the clothes, in the shape of maroon flowers.
a film that is concise and short. almost as good as a poem.
Ray runs North London's most powerful criminal gang, and his nephew Jude is a polished and successful member. Jude's boyhood friend Jonny comes to Jude with an idea he wants to pitch to Ray; Jude is reluctant to mix friendship with business (and family), but he does arrange a meeting. Ray takes Jonny on (he uses his job as a courier to steal credit cards), but Jonny soon finds himself bored: the gang is more interested in goofing around and planning Ray's wedding than in fighting, havoc, and mayhem. Jonny wants violence, so he repeatedly tries to start trouble with the South London equivalent of Ray's gang. Will he succeed? If he does, will he find glory in war?
Call me shallow, but I love it...
Contrary to the other reviewer, I end the film wanting to add it to my collection. This movie has most of the elements of my favorite films, which sometimes include a bit of fun, self-indulgence, glam and humor. Oh, did I fail to mention gratuitous violence (ala the Catholic school girl from Kill Bill or the James Gandolfini scene in True Romance)? Jude Law makes me smile throughout the film, I see what he saw in Sadie Frost, and I must say Ray Winstone (Sexy Beast) is by far my favorite British mafioso. Great performances by Kathy Burke (Sid and Nancy), and Rhys Ifans (Notting Hill). The gang from The Sopranos never had this much fun. Someone else watch this movie, so I can find out if I'm crazy....no one appreciated Very Bad Things but me! :)
Clive Owen stars as a prison inmate who goes into an experimental "open" prison where the inmates walk around freely and get job training for their impending releases. While there, he discovers he has a talent for growing flowers. His talent is recognized by a gardening guru who encourages him and four other inmates to enter a national gardening competition.
Lust in the Greenhouse
Actually, I can't recall any scene with greenhouse naughtiness, but there is plenty of gardening and a smattering of lustiness. True story or otherwise, this is my favourite British film for a couple of years, including last year's boy in the ballet flick. It's got that expected gentleness in the tale, in spite of the prison setting, but it seems so well made that I forgave its overly romanticised telling. David Kelly, as the terminally ill serial wife killer, was quite superb. I suppose I am being too fanciful to expect him to get a Best Supporting Actor nomination next year, but he certainly deserves it. The rest of the male cast did an adequate job, whilst Helen Mirren shone as the expert gardener. Finally, I have to mention Lucy Punch, if only to say that I was disappointed her part was not as enlarged as her midriff became. 7/10. A film which interested me from start to finish.
