Sandip Ray did not disappoint us.

Especially after his father, the celebrated Satyajit Ray did the classic treats to Feluda in two films, Sandip Ray must have felt the surge of high expectations on this third Feluda project. The Feluda stories, penned by Ray Sr. himself, are still bestsellers among Bengali early-teen fiction. Sandip Ray sensed the screen potentials of this particular story well and evidently made this film with immense passion for his father's work.

Well, he may not have his father's rich artistic vision, nor could he be able to put enough wit and originality into the screenplay, but he certainly knows how to make a film entertaining. He changed the story subtly in some places and most notably, he was able to infiltrate more amounts of 'action' element into the story and that became certainly one of its plus points. On his side, he got Sabyasachi Chakravarthy who's probably a better Feluda than Soumitra Chatterjee whom Ray Sr. worked with. Sabyasachi's got more sharpness in his appearance as described in the stories. The other cast members also did a nice job except Bibhu Bhattacharya who is a pathetic choice for the role of Jatayu.

The fans of Feluda, as well as casual viewers, would certainly enjoy the film. I hope Sandip Ray would carry on with this standard for his next Feluda project that we're eagerly looking forward to.

How could this get ten out of ten? It's a typical Bollywood movie, and not even a good one. I've seen a lot of these flicks for my work (i'm a journalist), and this is the worst Bollywood production ever. I mean, to name one thing, all the coincidences (fot instance, the last minute abduction!). Look, this movie's release date has been postponed and postponed and postponed, that must ring a bell, doesn't it? The acting's horrible, the music is bad and when it's supposed to be funny, it ain't funny. No, this is not a good movie. I like Bollywood, and i know some good movies (for example Rog and Jism and Xcuse Me), that's why i'm so shocked to find this movie getting such good point. Shame on those 10-voters, who should know better. I give this movie the lowest grade.

Parents, children, brothers. Spiraling Down the Sink Hole of Chile's Underground

Director/writer Andrés Waissbluth worked seven years to complete this two hour film about the crime underground in Santiago, Chile, and perhaps that is one of the reasons the resultant film seems episodic and in need of editing. OR, maybe this is the technique of a director who shows a fine sense of film noir storytelling.

Two brothers - Silvio the elder (Néstor Cantillana) and Victor the younger (Juan Pablo Miranda) - have moved to Santiago from their home in Temuco after their parents' death and Silvio works to support Victor's education. On Victor's seventeenth birthday Silvio takes the virgin out to the clubs where he encourages Victor to lose his virginity with one of the club's stripper/prostitutes. In a tender scene Victor must face his nascent impotency while Silvio is out on the club floor impressing the 'owners' with his potential for hire.

Silvio goes to work for the 'gang' as a bodyguard/henchman and makes good money to support Victor's schooling. But Victor has eyes for one of the dancers at the club named Gracia (Antonella Ríos) and begins to woo her, dropping out of school incurring Silvio's angry disappointment. Gracia just happens to be the squeeze of the club gang's leader Don Pascual (Alejandro Trejo) who is Silvio's boss! Gracia is the glue that holds this tale together as she is the paramour of Victor, Silvio, and Don Pascual and the consequences of this bizarre ménage a trois has deadly results. Through a means of re-telling the story through the eyes of Victor, Silvio, and Gracia we grow to understand the vulnerabilities and the cracks in each character that allow for the downfall that results.

Sound like a Chilean Pulp Fiction? Well, it is and it is filmed in a brutally colorful, dark manner that includes a lot of frontal nudity (both female and male) and provocative sexual encounters. But in the end the sensual aspect of the director's vision is what drives this film, playing on the debutante virginal psyche against the hardcore professional sex worker with success. The cast is fairly strong, especially Antonella Ríos in the demanding role of Gracia. There are enough twists and turns and replays of incidents you think you understood the first viewing but that change dramatically in impact when told through the eyes of a different character. Bordering on two hours, some judicious editing would have helped the impact of the film. In Spanish with English subtitles. An Interesting and Absorbing Look at Murder

This is a brilliant example of a movie which is about murder, but which isn't a conventional crime thriller.

It's the exquisitely slow-paced tale of a murder - starting at the planning stage and following the perpetrator as he stumbles through a world irrevocably changed by his deed.

Beautifully written and filmed, with an eye-catching lead performance from Johnny's Entertainment idol Kazunari Ninomiya (who I'd previously only seen in a couple of comedy renzoku - I had no idea he could act like this!) and wonderfully restrained direction by Yukio Ninagawa, there's a lot to like here, but I wouldn't recommend it to everyone.

This isn't a thriller by any means - it's very much a character drama, in spite of the tight plotting and the slow-building tension. The murder around which the story revolves is depicted carefully and in detail, but as much weight is placed on the state of mind of the killer and on the consequences of the crime (both legal and personal).

Well-written, well-made and excellently played, this is an interesting change of pace from the plethora of whodunnits and murder-mysteries and crime thrillers which tend to emphasise the action and investigation over the psychological aspects of what happens when one person kills another.

(Incidentally, this film reminded me strongly in its overall approach to murder of the writings of Patricia Highsmith, a good example being Found in the Street.)

Underestimated and misunderstood piece

Seb, a reckless cop smells some odd deal going down. He finds himself suspended and framed soon afterwards, and his only chance to clear his name is to be faster than the guys who are after him...

Critics hated this film of respected film-maker László Szabó, overlooking the fact that he has not been active for a long period, it's his first action movie and he had very low budget and tight timeframe. All that definitely have an effect on the film, but we've seen much worse which started off with better background (Apám beájulna, Európa expressz, Magyar vándor, for instance). The basic story and structure is okay, the worst thing is the screenplay, some more time for rewrites would definitely have done good for the script. Character basics are fine as well, the film features A-class actors, but their performance is hindered by the inadequate level of action movie character direction.

The upside of the film is that it has brilliant atmosphere (reminiscent of '70s-'80s Hungarian crime films) and the thread of the man who hides Seb is done really well (nota bene this is the part where the film gets good, when it's not all about action and crime). These may be covered by negative aspects, but nevertheless it's still a very rare gift in present Hungarian film-making. With some script and dialogue rewrites, braver directing, chance to re-shoot some scenes and more time given for cutting, this could have been a very good film. Too bad it did not quite come out like that in the end, there is a good deal of wasted potential.

A R-rated slasher flick, with a storyline, what more could u ask for?

I can't believe that people are trashing this film! If it's not the PG-13 horror film haters, which I'm one of those myself, it's people who expect some much from the little guys. This film wasn't handled by a multi-million dollar studio, it was handled by a true student of horror like, hmm, ourselves, with a little bit of money and an idea. I totally respect Mena for paying homage to films like: "The Town That Dreaded Sundown", "Psycho", and yes "Halloween", but folks give me a break! This film was good, violent, scary and had a storyline, two different plot points to be exact, along with a back story coming soon to theaters. Stay off these guys, they are one of us, one of the little guys who are trying to make Hollywood into what it used to be, to what we dreamed of, not what it has become.

"Malevolence", is a true horror film that everyone should watch! No it's not the best acted film I've ever seen, or the most horrific cinematic experience I've witnessed, but it's a true visceral, surrealistic film, that only the old 70's flicks could approach. Forget the lavishing special effects, with the beefy soundtracks packed with the latest heavy metal hits and hot models turned actresses. If you want to see a true gritty horror film, with big scares, large knives, synthesized effects and a potato bag wearing maniac, rent this puppy, she will deliver, I promise!

A troubled abused young lady, Mariana Walker, arrives at the Lounge needing a job. She is murdered and Joey was the last person with her and is the number one suspect. Joey only has a few days to find the killer with the help of his sidekick Razor and the corrupt Mayor of Passionville, Mayor Hermann Paxton. There are several suspects that one by one, after Joey interrogates them become non-suspects as the Grand Jury is about to indict Joey for the murder.

Nice Looking Noir Film

With a reported budget of less then $1,000 this film is a perfect example of microcinema working for the little guy. The film was shot in the tradition of the old classic Film Noir style film-making. It is set in 1948 in the fictitious town of Passionville, IL.

Joey Ferdinando (Brian Talbot) is a private eye who, after being forced out of the Passionville Police Department, now works catching cheating husbands.

His favorite hang out is Losers Lounge owned by Lisa Loser (Vickie Smith). Everyone who is anyone frequents the lounge in search of good times, drinking and a few extra curricular activities. One day Lisa is approached by Mariana Walker (Autumne Sorgius), a young girl in search of a job. She is hired on the spot and begins whoring almost immediately. Mariana is killed later in the film and Joey is dubbed the #1 suspect. He is constantly being scrutinized by Sergeant Frank Monday (Kevin Croak) and Mayor Hermann Paxton (Bob Williams) for his role in the murder and eventually has to prove his innocence amidst all the corruption and dirty politics.

The storyline was great, however the acting left a little to be desired. Technically the film was solid with the exception of the lightning and audio inconsistencies. We would like to give props to the chase scene involving Joey and Rich (Tim Tyler). Instead of using a traditional dolly Don Boner's crew improvised by having the camera man ride in the trunk of a car while it was moving. The end result being an impressive action sequence that could be considered the best scene of the entire film.

This film is a prime example of what can be achieved on a limited budget and a little imagination. My only suggestion...spend more time on casting.
